After embracing motherhood now, you need to be more focused, organized, and plan everything well in advance if you wish to maintain a perfect balance between parenthood and your profession. Resuming work after your maternity leave would be full of challenges. Although it would never be easy because almost all new mothers experience feelings of guilt and stress because of divided attention between family, newborn baby, and work. Juggling the responsibilities of family, work, and leaving your baby in someone else’s care is no easy feat. If you’ve made up your mind to go back to work and you think that you can manage everything then here are some interesting tips that can help in flourishing both your career and family:

    • Trustworthy childcare- It's not at all easy to leave your baby in someone else’s care but if you’re blessed with a beautiful family who can look after your baby with a helping hand then you’re lucky enough. Otherwise, you must look out for a good daycare facility and if you’re working from home then you can hire a part-time maid, nanny, or a live-in maid. For your child’s safety, you can also invest in some good quality CCTV cameras so that your baby and the caregiver are always under your surveillance.

    • Plan breastfeeding- If you’re pumping breastmilk then you must dress up appropriately for the office and do not hesitate to speak to the HR team to enquire about some safe places where you can privately and comfortably pump out. You must store your milk in the refrigerator of the office. If you want some time away from your desk then you must honestly speak to the team leader and your colleagues.

    • Sharing responsibilities- You must discuss your schedule with your partner and coordinate accordingly. You can divide up the household chores and childcare arrangements. If your baby is unwell or hasn’t slept properly at night then you can make a sick day plan.

    • Make your mornings as easy as possible- Try to do some preparations the night before like preparing bottles, ironed clothes for the next day, meal plan, if you’ve to leave the house then you must prepare your baby’s diaper bag ready for the convenience of the other family members. The consistent morning routine will help you and your spouse if you both are working from home.

    • Stock up well in advance- You might have to go to the office after your maternity leave even if you were working from home so you must always stock the essentials at your home to avoid the last-minute rush. Healthy snacks, diapers, nursing pads, sanitary pads, breast pumps, groceries, and medicines are some of the important things that should always be there at your home when you have a newborn baby.

    • Establish a bedtime routine- Some babies don’t sleep well at daycare or with a caregiver and that makes your child quite cranky and overtired. You must not ignore if the caregiver informs you that the baby hasn’t taken a nap during the day. Try an earlier bedtime because a good night's sleep is extremely important for the child and the parents.

    • Learn how to say no- Your time is valuable when you’re a working parent and if you’re not using it wisely then you can never be productive. You don’t have to feel guilty when you say no to a close friend for the dinner party or late-night movie plans because when you’re a working parent then you have to become picky when it comes to your social calendar. You must delegate some work without feeling bad about it.

    • Simplify your meals- You won’t be getting hours so that you can enjoy cooking when you have a little one at home. You can either hire a cook or you can plan your meals accordingly. You can prepare complicated dishes on the weekend. If you have to leave the house for some official work or will stay the busy whole day in meetings then you must prepare the meals with a common ingredient for the rest of the day. Prepare healthy and easy finger foods for your baby like stewed fruits and vegetables, small cubes of cheese, crumbled-up hard-boiled eggs.

    • Sneak in snuggle time with your baby- Although it’s not easy to balance the hectic schedule still you must not forget to cuddle and pamper your baby whether it’s an early morning diaper change or during a late-night feeding. Keep reminding yourself that you are a super mom and you’re doing the best you can.
