What is Thyroid?

The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the neck. It is a small organ that surrounds the windpipe in front of the neck and it is butterfly-shaped. The thyroid gland produces hormones for supporting various functions in the body.

What is Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the body produces an excess amount of thyroid hormone known as thyroxine. This can accelerate the metabolism of an individual and lead to rapid weight loss and an unstable heartbeat.

Can thyroid be cured?

A patient can take medication for the normal functioning of the thyroid. The most effective treatments for treating hyperthyroidism are radioactive iodine, antithyroid medication, and surgery.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

1. Unintentional weight loss

One major symptom of Hyperthyroidism is unintentional weight loss. This can occur without any change in diet and food intake.

2. Irregular heartbeat

Thyroid dysfunction can cause an irregular heartbeat that can result in chest pain, dizziness, fainting or fluttering in the chest.

3. Increased appetite

Increased appetite is often associated with hyperthyroidism which results in weight gain.

4. Nervousness & anxiety

An overactive thyroid can also lead to nervousness and anxiety

How to cure thyroid dysfunction forever?

Many people would argue that thyroid dysfunction cannot be cured completely. This is true for the cases in which patients who have been cured fail to maintain a healthy lifestyle thereafter. Here are some effective lifestyle changes for thyroid reversal.

1. Maintaining a balanced diet

Maintaining a balanced diet is an effective way of curing thyroid and leading a healthy life. Nuts, seeds, dry fruits, vegetable oils, grains, beans, legumes, sugar, chocolates, and nightshade vegetables should be avoided. Alcohol, coffee, and processed foods are also to be strictly avoided.

2. Consuming natural supplements

Another effective way of curing thyroid is consuming natural supplements. Try to eat foods rich in iodine, selenium, and vitamin D. One should also switch to probiotics, curcumin-rich food, and consume chaste berry which is also used for better hormone balance in females.

3. Stress reduction

Stress is the major underlying cause of most diseases and thyroid is no exception. One should strive for a stress-free lifestyle and switch to meditation to lower stress levels.

Foods to help your thyroid

A balanced diet for thyroid patients or the food to cure thyroid should include non-iodized salt, egg whites, nut butter, unsalted nuts, oats, potatoes, and homemade bread without salt, egg, or dairy products. Here is a complete list of foods to eat.

1. Dairy Products

There are many conflicting views about consuming dairy products for a thyroid patient. However, nonfat dairy products are mostly recommended for thyroid patients.

2. Protein Rich Food

Protein-rich foods are a great addition to a balanced diet for thyroid patients. These foods include egg yolks, all types of meat, and sea foods.

3. Veggies

Consuming cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, garden cress, cauliflower, kale, broccoli, bok choy, and brussels sprouts in small quantities is good.

4. Nutrients

Thyroid patients need to eat foods rich in micronutrients like selenium and iodine.

Yoga for Thyroid Cure

Thinking about how to cure thyroid by yoga? These are the poses that can help.

1. Supported shoulder stand

A supported shoulder stand is considered to be the most effective pose for treating thyroid. In this yoga pose, you need to lay down flat on the back, lift your legs, and bring your lower back up with your hands. Lift yourself until your chin tucks to the chest. It is not advisable for everyone as it can result in injury.

2. Plow pose

The plow pose is another effective pose for thyroid. It is performed by laying down flat, lifting the legs, and taking them back over the head while keeping the hands on the sides. One can also use a pillow for supporting the feet if they don't reach the floor.

3. Fish pose

The fish pose can be done as an alternate yoga pose for the shoulder stand. It is performed by lying on your back with legs stretched in front and leaning on the forearms and elbows with the chest raised.

4. Legs-up-the-wall pose

It is a simple yoga pose performed by laying down flat on the back and lifting the legs to 90 degrees.

5. Cat-cow pose

The cat-cow pose is performed by putting your body weight on the knees and palms. One needs to maintain this pose and draw the chin to the chest and again lift it to expand your throat.

6. Boat pose

The boat pose is performed by sitting on the butt and requires adequate balancing. The chin is slightly tucked in as one breathes while performing this pose.

7. Camel pose

Camel pose is performed by firmly extending the neck outwards for stimulating the thyroid gland.

8. Cobra pose

It is a gentle yoga pose done by laying down on the stomach and completely stretching the neck outwards. These are the effective ways that can cure Hyperthyroidism and make way for a healthy life.
