Pregnancy may be an exciting phase however not all women sail through pregnancy with ease. About 75% of women experience fatigue, nausea, and vomiting which are the common characteristics of morning sickness. Pregnancy brings along many physical and mental changes and morning sickness is one of them. Some women experience it only in their first trimester while others have to deal with it during their entire phase of pregnancy. Morning sickness does not necessarily mean that it happens only in the morning. Due to the massive changes in your hormonal balance, it can happen in the afternoon and evening. At times this unpleasant symptom can last all day long. The changes in your hormonal levels can trigger your morning sickness during pregnancy and they are as follows:

    • Estrogen levels

    • Progesterone levels

    • Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)

    • Sense of smell

A sensitive stomach, urinary tract infection, stress, or fatigue can worsen the situation. Until and unless it leads to dehydration or weight loss this situation doesn’t need any medical attention. A pregnant lady needs advanced care if the situation gets worse to excessive vomiting which is also known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). The most common signs and symptoms of morning sickness are:

    • Loss of appetite

    • Feeling nauseated and queasy

    • Dehydration

    • Depression

    • Feeling weak

    • Aversion to certain foods

The loving support from the family and some dietary alterations can help you get rid of this discomforting feeling of morning sickness. Depending on the severity the doctor might recommend you to take some medical treatments as remedies. The doctor might advise you to take some prenatal multi-vitamins which may include Vitamin B6 and B12. Although there are several other supplements available in the market that are pregnancy safe still consume only those that are advised by your doctor.

Try these remedies to ge rid of Morning Sickness

Besides medical treatments you can consider these below mentioned pointers if the symptoms of morning sickness persist:

    • Ginger- Sipping on a cup of hot ginger tea can help soothe your stomach. You must keep ginger candies near your bedside to relax your system. You can try several other herbal teas that are made with lemon balm, Camomile, and peppermint as that is quite effective.

    • Mint- The refreshing flavor of peppermint brings immediate results if you are feeling nauseated. You can simply smell or chew some fresh leaves of mint and you will get rid of that queasy feeling.

    • Have breakfast in bed- You must eat cereals or toast as soon as you wake up because that will normalize your blood pressure and sugar levels.

    • Lemon juice- The sourness of this tangy little food item reduces the symptoms of nausea. You can sprinkle it on your food items or can simply drink lemonade with some salt and sugar in it.

    • Coconut water- Tender coconut is a miraculous drink that is full of minerals, fiber, and vitamins. It is considered one of the effective remedies to cure morning sickness.

    • Hydrate your body- Drinking just 8-10 glasses of water won’t help you enough during pregnancy. You must consume buttermilk, flavored milk, fresh fruit juices, lemonade, vegetable juices, etc. to stay hydrated.

    • Eat frequently in small portions and make sure your stomach is never empty. Keep nuts and healthy snacks handy so that you can keep nibbling throughout the day.

    • Don’t lie down immediately after consuming any meal as that can delay the digestion process. If you can’t go out for a walk you must walk inside your house.

    • After waking up in the morning don’t rush to begin your morning routine. Wait on the bed for a while and if you feel like eating something you must eat something light on your bed.

    • Avoid eating oily and sugary food items. You must eat warm and freshly cooked food.

    • Avoid consuming aerated drinks, junk foods, and processed foods.

    • Avoid sipping water or other fluids between your meals.

    • De-stress yourself by watching tv, walking, chat with a friend, reading a book, meditation, or simply lying down on a bed.

    • Aromatherapy and acupressure also help a lot during morning sickness.
